The Resource Center celebrated its 25th Anniversary during the annual Welding  and Construction workshop held February 28-March 1, 2019. Over 100 welding and building  construction teachers were on hand for the celebration. Numerous business and industry representatives were in attendance as well as Career and Technical leaders from the State Department of Education.

During the lunch hour State Assistant Superintendent and Career Technical Education Director Tommy Glasscock spoke to the group. Mr. Glasscock congratulated the Resource Center for the many years of providing technical update workshops as well as other services to Alabama CTE teachers. After the talk by Mr. Glasscock, Bob Kimbrell, Director of the Resource Center, presented awards to several local industry members for their longtime support of the Resource Center. The awards were presented to:

  • Will Marable, Training Coordinator for Local 372 Apprentice Training program in Tuscaloosa
  • Gary Nichols, President, Chief Operating Officer for McAbee Construction Company
  • Greg Howell, Owner of Dixie Mechanical Incorporated
  • Dale Breckenridge, Sales Representative with Airgas

After the presentations a 25th Anniversary cake was served to the group. (Nine cakes, actually!)

Dr. Bob Kimbrell is President and director of the Resource Center, and Debbye Chambers is Vice-president and manager of the Center. The Resource Center was founded in 1991 as a nonprofit educational training center but did not begin full-time operation until 1995.
